Staining underneath a deck can be an easy area to overlook, but it can make a difference in both the appearance and protection of the wood. In this Appling, GA project, we first cleaned and re-stained the existing deck with Expert Stain & Seal semi-transparent Pecan and refreshed the white trim with Sherwin-Williams Extra White solid stain. We later returned to stain the underside of the deck as well.

Using the right product is important when staining underneath a deck. A penetrating oil-based stain can help protect and condition the wood without creating the same moisture-trapping film associated with some other coatings. Since every deck is different, the right staining approach depends on the wood, existing finish, and condition of the structure.
