Replacing damaged or worn deck boards is an important part of maintaining an older deck, but new wood will naturally look different from weathered boards. On this wrap-around porch, some boards were replaced and repaired after the original deck was stained with a semi-transparent Pecan stain a little over a year earlier.

After allowing the replacement boards time to acclimate, we returned to protect the new wood with a fresh coat of stain. Differences in sun exposure and the age of the surrounding wood can affect how the stain looks, so a perfect color match isn’t always possible right away. With proper deck staining and future maintenance coats, the newer and older wood can gradually blend closer together while helping protect the deck or porch from the elements.
